Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started What issues can hypnotherapy help with? Anxiety, stress, panic, trauma recovery, sleep, confidence, habits, weight loss, smoking cessation, phobias, performance, and more. If the problem is driven by thoughts, emotions, or patterns, there is usually a path I can help you with. How is your approach different from traditional talk therapy? Talk therapy is great for insight and ongoing support. Hypnotherapy works at the level of patterns and body responses, so change can become easier to access. Many clients use both at different times. Do I need a diagnosis or referral? No. If you are under medical or psychiatric care, keep your providers informed. I am happy to collaborate with them. Do you offer a free discovery call? Yes. A short call helps confirm fit, answer questions, and map next steps.
How Sessions Work What happens in a session? We review goals, set a clear target, and use a guided process to access a calm, focused state. From there, I use targeted techniques to update unhelpful patterns. You remain aware and in control the whole time. How long is each session? Plan for about 60–90 minutes unless your program specifies otherwise. How many sessions will I need? Most goals take 4–8 sessions. Smoking cessation and single-target phobias may be faster. Complex trauma or long-standing patterns can take longer. We review progress as we go. Will I remember what happens? Yes. Most clients remember clearly, similar to recalling a very focused conversation. Can everyone be hypnotized? Nearly everyone can follow the process when they feel safe and willing. It feels like deep focus, not sleep. Will I lose control or reveal secrets? No. You remain aware, can speak, and can stop at any time. You cannot be made to act against your values. Is stage hypnosis the same thing? No. Stage hypnosis is entertainment. Clinical hypnotherapy is a goal-focused, collaborative process. Zoom, in-person, and visits Is there any difference between Zoom and in-person results? No meaningful difference. Many clients go deeper at home because they are already comfortable. I work with clients worldwide by Zoom. Do you make house calls? Yes for local clients when needed, such as agoraphobia or mobility limits. What do I need for a Zoom session? A private space, stable internet, a phone or computer with camera, and wired or wireless headphones if possible. A place to recline helps.
